Service Leadership Programs (SLP)

Kiwanis International is a "family" of organizations that focuses on teaching young children about the responsibilities of good citizenship, community service and building future leaders. The Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven sponsors six youth clubs.

Leading by Helping Others
Kiwanis International empowers people at every stage of life to become competent, capable and compassionate leaders by giving them the opportunity to help others. Through its Service Leadership Programs, Kiwanis teaches young leaders new ways to change the world by serving one child and one community at a time.

Finding Your Heart to Serve
Simply stated, service leadership is the powerful force that occurs when a person's heart to serve unites with his or her call to lead.

Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs provide an opportunity for young people to discover their heart to serve. When people have a heart to serve, they begin to make service a part of their character and a part of their daily life. For these people, service is not just about helping those in need, but it also becomes a guide for how they treat everyone around them. When you find your heart to serve, you truly know what it means to be a caring person.

Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs also open an opportunity for young people to answer their call to lead. Answering this call means that a person makes the intentional decision to step forward and act. Those who answer the call to lead stop being spectators, and start actively contributing to an organization, a community, or a cause. While they are eager to do service, they are just as eager to dig deeper into the root causes of social problems. They want to give back and they want to influence change.

And so, when people discover their heart to serve and answer their call to lead, they have unlocked service leadership. That is what we're trying to achieve.

We are so proud of our youth groups and their accomplishments which make our community a much better place to live.

Our sponsored youth groups independently initiate service projects and community service activities throughout the school year. Our club works through an adviser in each youth organization to coordinate our participation with their activities or to have them work with us on major service programs and fundraisers.
